Wayne Johnson, CEO of ContainerCo, shares his personal approach to resilience in leadership. He emphasises the importance of building strong personal support systems, including trusted confidants outside his industry, a supportive home life, and a solid friendship network. He highlights that feeling isolated is sometimes inevitable, but temporary. To maintain perspective and decision-making clarity, he relies on honest conversations with mentors and personal connections rather than industry groups, which he finds less open.
Within ContainerCo, he fosters resilience by recognising individual contributions, leading by example, promoting health and wellbeing initiatives, and encouraging a positive, fun work culture. Personally, Wayne maintains resilience through physical health, mental wellbeing practices, hobbies outside work, and not letting work define his identity. His advice to other CEOs is to focus on what they can control, value personal relationships over professional titles, learn from setbacks, and build a small trusted support circle outside their organisation.
